Dual Credit Courses

Link to SD MY LIFE

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Your student may qualify to register for dual-credit classes during the 2017-2018 school year.  Dual credit classes give students the opportunity to take college classes at a reduced rate.  These classes also count for high school credit, giving students the opportunity to get a jump start on college credits while still attending high school.

Juniors are allowed to take 6 credits per semester, and seniors will be limited to a number of credits on an individual basis.  Classes cost $40 a credit, and the school will pay for one class per semester (a grade of C or higher is required or the student will be required to pay for the class).  For additional classes, students are responsible for paying the college directly.  Students are also responsible for ordering and paying for any required books and materials.

In the link above you will find additional information on dual credit classes.  While this is a wonderful opportunity, college classes are not a fit for every qualified student.  These are truly college classes, which means they are taking the class with college students and are held to the same standards.  They are completely responsible for knowing what is required of them, and the grade that is obtained will be put on both high school and college transcripts.  Failing and/or dropping a class can directly impact financial aid, so this is a decision that should not be made lightly.
