Over the next few weeks, we will be learning about how to take care of our hearts, spreading the message to friends and family, and helping others when we can!
The American Heart Association’s goal is to improve the cardiovascular health of Americans. They will challenge our kids to start living a healthy lifestyle now to prevent problems later; and give them an opportunity to participate in a service learning project that funds the fight against heart diseases and stroke – #1 and #5 cause of death in our country.

During the week of February 27, your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®). We will give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of math and English. Your child will take the tests on a laptop or Chromebook.
MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. And with MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth. Over the next week, your child will spend a total of about 2 hours completing these tests.
This school year, students in grades 7-12 take the tests in February and May, and next school year students in grades 7-12 will take the tests in September, January and May. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth.
A parents guide to MAP tests can be found on the school website. [click here]

With the cancellation of school last week we will make up the day on Friday, February 17.
Staff took the day Thursday to thoroughly clean the school classrooms and gymnasium. Please help us out during this flu season by not sending your child to school if he or she is ill.
A message went out late last week regarding a change of schedule for Monday, however Monday will run as a normal day 8:15-3:50 pm.
Thursday, February 9, 2017
Wolsey-Wessington School is closed today, Thursday, February 9.
There will be no teacher help day on Friday, February 10.
Due to nearly 40% of the staff out with the flu we are forced to close. The longer weekend will allow for the school to be thoroughly cleaned and a chance for students and staff to stay home, rest and get healthy.
